Advisory Panel Releases Consultation Paper on Canada’s International Tax System

The Advisory Panel on Canada’s System of International Taxation, struck by the Government of Canada in November 2007 to help guide the establishment of an international tax policy framework respecting foreign investment by Canadian businesses and investment into Canada by foreign businesses, today issued a consultation paper, Enhancing Canada’s International Tax Advantage.

“With increasing globalization comes more competition from foreign businesses,” said Peter C. Godsoe, O.C., the Panel’s chair. “Our panel’s goal is to ensure Canada’s system of international taxation maintains its support for Canadian businesses as they compete abroad, while continuing to attract new foreign investment to Canada.”

The paper poses a series of questions about Canada’s international taxation system, sets out some of the Panel’s initial views and invites public comments on how to improve the competitiveness, efficiency and fairness of Canada’s international taxation system.

Written submissions will be accepted until July 15, 2008. Information on how to make submissions are detailed on the Panel’s website at www.apcsit-gcrcfi.ca.

The paper is available on the Panel’s website. Print copies are available from the Department of Finance Distribution Centre at 613-995-2855.
